Learn more driving school offers driving lessons in North, South and Central Manchester, Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton, Wigan, Salford, Trafford and Warrington. Our driving instructors offer weekly lessons and 1 to 1 intensive driving courses. Want to learn to drive? our tuition techniques are recommended by the driving stantards agency as the best form of teaching.
To qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor you will need to take and pass a three part examination set by the Driving Standards Agency. Each part of the examination is taken separately, and you must pass each part before taking the next.
PART ONE- THE THEORY EXAMINATION
This exam is taken at a local theory test centre used by learner drivers; it is a two part exam. The first part is 100 multiple choice questions, the overall pass mark for this test must be at least 85%. The questions are banded into 4 subject groups, these are:
• Road procedure
• Traffic signs and signals, car control, and pedestrians
• Driving test disabilities and traffic law
• Publications and instructional techniques
The second part of the test is a hazard perception test, this involves identifying potential hazards on video clips by clicking on the computer mouse button, there are 14 clips and each one will contain one or more hazards, the minimum score required is 57 out of a possible 75.
To prepare you for the part 1 examination, our study pack contains all the necessary books and publications, including all the latest questions and answers used in the test. You will also receive DVD’s, these contain all the questions and answers and the hazard perception test. This will allow you to practice both test in the same way as the real test.
You can study for the theory test at your own pace, there is no time limit for taking the theory exam, however the study materials could change over a period of time, therefore we recommend that complete the theory test within six months of starting the course. After passing the part 1 examination, you then have 2 years in which to take the second and third examinations, otherwise you would need to start the exams again.
PART TWO-DRIVING ABILITY TEST
After passing the part 1 examination you will be able to apply for the part 2 driving ability test. This test is taken at selected driving test centres where driving instructors and learner drivers are tested. It is conducted by specially trained examiners.
You will be asked to drive for approximately 1 hour on a typical range of roads including motorways, during the test you will be asked to do set exercises such as, reversing around corners and parking manoeuvres.
At the start of the test you will be asked to read a car number plate from a distance of 27.5 metres (90 ft), this will be done in good daylight and can be done with the aid of glasses or contacts if worn.
The test is of an advanced nature and is not just a more difficult L test. You will be required to drive in a brisk business like manner. You must demonstrate that you have a thorough knowledge of the principals of good driving and road safety.
The training for this test will be in-car training using our vehicles or your own if preferred. We will train you for a minimum of 12 hours to prepare you for the test, this is usually more than enough for most drivers, however if you do not reach the standard within 12 hours we will continue to train you until a satisfactory standard is reached.
The training will consist of the following procedures:
• Explanation of correct road procedures
• Demonstration of correct road procedures where necessary
• Identification of all driving faults
• Linking your own driving to giving instruction
• Feedback on strengths and weaknesses
• Mock driving test
Don’t be worried about a few bad habits, most drivers develop them over a period of time, we will help you to eliminate them and bring your driving up to today’s standards.
PART 3 TEST OF INSTRUCTIONAL ABILITY
This test is conducted by an examiner who, will role play the part of a learner driver at two different standards. The test last for about one hour, in the first part of the test the examiner will ask you to treat him as a novice learner driver, the examiner will ask you to teach him/her a specific subject such as, reversing or junctions.
In the second part of the test the examiner will ask you to treat him as a pupil who is about or beyond driving test standard, he/she will tell you that they have a weakness with a certain subject such as, pedestrian crossings or crossroads, your job would be to improve the pupils performance to bring them up to test standard.
The training for this test will be a minimum of 40 hours, during this training your personal tutor will show you how to teach a learner driver from beginner to test standard and beyond.
Training for this test will include the following subjects;
• Lesson planning
• The correct use of terminology
• Giving correct directions
• Fault identification
• Fault analysis
• Correcting faults
• The correct use of dual controls
• Driving test procedures
• Assessing other drivers
• Dealing with different types of pupils
• Giving the correct level of instruction
• General teaching techniques
• Purchase and leasing of driving school cars
• Running a successful driving school
The training for the above can done over several weeks or fast tracked over one week, the choice would be yours.
